Deposits In Your Health Bank
Are you making recurring deposits in your health bank?
In this blog, I invite you to explore how “little things” in your daily habits may matter more than you think.
When we think about getting healthier, we often picture big, dramatic changes — strict diets, tough exercise programs, or long lists of new rules. But real, lasting wellness doesn’t come from overhauling your life. It comes from the small things you do consistently. Wellness is grounded in your daily habits.
And here’s the secret: small things add up — in fact, they multiply over time. That’s the compounding effect.
The Compounding Effect
A relatable way to think of it is like earning interest on a savings account. When you deposit a little bit of money each day, it doesn’t seem like much. But over time, those small deposits grow and build on themselves — creating real wealth.
Your wellness works the same way.
Each time you make a supportive choice — drink an extra glass of water, stretch for five minutes, choose an apple instead of chips, or take a calming breath before reacting — you’re making a deposit into your wellness bank.
The payoff may not be immediate, but the effects layer together and multiply over time, leading to
more energy
better moods
stronger resilience
lower disease risks
Relatable Example: Meet Jill
At age 57, Jill decided to start walking after dinner for just 10 minutes. She understood that this simple act could have a big effect on her blood sugar and aid in digestion. She didn’t overthink things either; no fancy fitness tracker and she didn’t pressure herself to “hit 10,000 daily steps.”
At first, it didn’t feel like much. But within a few weeks, she noticed she was sleeping better. A month later, her digestion improved. After three months, she realized she actually looked forward to her walks — they became her daily mental reset. It was ‘Jill time’—-when she got out of her head and into her physical body.
Her 10-minute habit turned into a 20-minute one, not out of discipline, but because it felt good.
That’s the compounding effect at work.

Tiny Habits, Big Shifts
Here are a few more examples of “small” choices that compound beautifully over time:
Drinking water first thing in the morning → Improved hydration → More energy → Less snacking from fatigue.
Pausing to breathe before eating → More mindful meals → Better digestion → Less overeating.
Standing and stretching once an hour → Better circulation → Fewer aches → More motivation to move.
Writing one gratitude note per day → Brighter mindset → Lower stress → Better immune health.
None of these are revolutionary on their own. But together, they create a ripple effect that supports every part of your wellness — physical, emotional, and even spiritual. I call it ‘spiraling upward.’
You can see the power of compounding everywhere in life:
🌱 Positive Examples
Reading 5 pages a day
Doesn’t sound like much, right? But in a year, that’s roughly 1,800 pages — the equivalent of six to eight full-length books. Imagine the ideas, inspiration, and mental stimulation that builds over time. What we feed our minds drives our energy, thoughts and feelings.Packing your lunch instead of eating out
Even if you save just $8 a day, that’s about $2,000 a year — not to mention fewer processed foods and more control over ingredients. Your wallet and your waistline both benefit.Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
A few extra minutes of movement per day may not feel like exercise, but after a month or two, your legs are stronger, your heart’s more efficient, and you might even notice your mood lift from those little bursts of activity.Writing down one thing you’re grateful for each evening
Over time, that journal becomes a beautiful record of your blessings and resilience — training your brain to look for what’s going right instead of what’s wrong or lacking.Drinking an extra glass of water daily
That’s 365 more opportunities a year to support your body’s natural systems — from digestion to skin health to energy levels.
Each small step seems insignificant in the moment, but layer them together, and they create steady, unstoppable momentum.
⚠️ Negative Examples
The compounding effect of course works both ways — small habits that seem harmless can also drain our energy, money, and wellbeing over time.
Skipping sleep here, eating processed food there, putting off self-care “until things are less busy” — it all adds up as well.
Letting a faucet drip
One drip per second wastes over 2,000 gallons of water a year. Tiny leaks become big waste if ignored — a perfect metaphor for neglected habits in our own lives.Mindless scrolling “for just a few minutes” before bed
Ten extra minutes a night is more than 60 hours a year — time that could have gone to reading, connecting or rest.Skipping breakfast or lunch regularly
You might not notice the effects right away, but over time, low blood sugar and energy dips can trigger cravings, irritability and later to overeating.Ignoring small aches or small bumps up on the scale
Brushing off your body’s early warning signs can allow small issues to grow into bigger ones — just like a dripping faucet turning into a flood
The key is not perfection — it’s awareness. If you’ve noticed that your daily deposits have been dwindling, you can gently redirect them towards healthier. My Invitation to You
Select one small habit you can practice daily — something that feels doable and kind to yourself.
It might be:
💧 Drinking one extra glass of water
🚶 Walking for 5–10 minutes after dinner
🧘 Breathing deeply or stretching for 2 minutes before bed
🫐 Adding an extra fruit or veggie to your day
Give it 30 days. Watch how it expands.
You’ll be amazed at how a single small choice can spark an upward spiral of energy, confidence, and wellness.
Because lasting health isn’t built in a day — it’s built day by day.
